Which process fits your situation? Choose the category that looks like yours: each page details the requirements and the steps.
Employer-specific work permit
This permit authorizes you to work for a specific employer. Depending on the case, the employer must first obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or the position is LMIA-exempt. In Québec, a CAQ may be added.
Open work permit
An open work permit lets you work for almost any employer, but it is only available in certain situations set out in the rules: completion of eligible studies, family members of certain workers or students, or a permanent residence application in progress, depending on the case.
Extending or keeping your status
An extension requested in time may, under certain conditions, let you stay in Canada while the application is assessed. If the permit has expired, restoration of status is sometimes possible, within specific deadlines: restoring status and the right to work are two separate questions.
How we can help
Pro Immigration can help you:
- review your situation and identify the appropriate type of permit;
- check the conditions that apply;
- prepare the application and the documents;
- support the process;
- avoid a loss of status when the rules allow an extension;
- review your options if your permit has expired.
We cannot guarantee that an application, an LMIA or a job will be approved or obtained: the decisions rest with the competent authorities.
