Canadian Citizenship
1,095 Days · CIT 0002

Are you eligible for Canadian citizenship? Verify your 1,095 days of physical presence, prepare your CIT 0002 file and pass your knowledge test — guided step by step by a regulated RCIC consultant in Montreal.

Conditions for Canadian Citizenship

Before filing a citizenship application, you must meet all conditions set by IRCC. A single unmet condition is enough to result in refusal.

5 years reference period before application date
$653 CAD government fee per adult
Physical Presence

1,095 Days in 5 Years

Status

Permanent Resident Status

You must be a permanent resident at the time of application, with no removal order or ongoing security investigation. Your PR status must be maintained.

Language

English or French (Ages 18–54)

If you are between 18 and 54, you must demonstrate adequate proficiency in English or French and pass the knowledge test about Canada.

You must have filed Canadian income tax returns for the 4 tax years within the 5-year reference period (if you were required to file).

How to Calculate Your 1,095 Days

This calculation is the most critical step. IRCC cross-checks your declaration against border entry/exit data from the CBSA.

100%

Days Counted Fully

Every day you were physically present in Canada as a permanent resident. Both arrival and departure days count as full days.

50%

Days Before PR Status

Days spent in Canada before becoming a PR (as visitor, student or temporary worker) count at 50%, up to a maximum of 365 usable days.

0%

Days Outside Canada

Days spent outside Canada do not count, regardless of the reason — vacation, work abroad, family visit. There are no exceptions to this rule.

5 yrs

5-Year Reference Period

Count backwards from your application date. You need 1,095 out of 1,825 total days. IRCC uses your passport stamps and border records to verify.

⚠️ Critical Warning

Do not underestimate this calculation. IRCC cross-checks your declared days against CBSA border entry/exit data. Discrepancies between your declaration and border records can lead to refusal for misrepresentation — a very serious consequence with long-term immigration impacts. Mohamed Rachid Trissia performs this calculation with you during the initial consultation.

CIT 0002 Application — Required Documents

Form CIT 0002 is the main adult citizenship application form. It must be accompanied by extensive supporting documents to prove your eligibility.

Pro tip: Physical presence proofs must be organized chronologically and cover each month or quarter of the 5-year period. The more complete and ordered your proofs, the less likely IRCC is to send a Request for Additional Information (RFI) that could delay processing by several months.

The Canadian Citizenship Test

Required for applicants aged 18 to 54. Based on the official "Discover Canada" guide published by IRCC.

Format

20 Questions · 75% to Pass

The test covers Canadian history, values, institutions and symbols. You must answer at least 15 of 20 questions correctly (75%) to pass. It can be taken in English or French.
