Super Visa for
parents and grandparents

Do you want to welcome your parents or grandparents to Canada for long stays? We review your situation and prepare your Super Visa application.

The Super Visa allows a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to stay in Canada for a long period. It is temporary: it does not give permanent residence.

Who is the Super Visa for?

  • the parents and grandparents (biological or adoptive) of a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person registered under the Indian Act, aged 18 or older and living in Canada;
  • Length of stay: up to 5 years at each entry;
  • Visa validity: multiple entries over a period of up to 10 years.

Visa validity and length of stay are two different things.

Main requirements

According to IRCC, including:

  • a written, signed letter of invitation from the child or grandchild who is inviting you;
  • a minimum host income: since March 31, 2026 it can be met in either of the two tax years before the application, and the parents' income can top up the amount if the host reaches the required percentage;
  • private medical insurance valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry, from a Canadian company or an approved international provider;
  • an immigration medical exam and admissibility to Canada.

Income thresholds change every year: we check the amounts in force when you apply.

Super Visa, visitor visa or sponsorship?

  • the Super Visa and the visitor visa are temporary options; for a shorter stay, the visitor visa may be enough;
  • sponsoring parents and grandparents is a different process that leads to permanent residence: IRCC has paused the intake of new applications since July 15, 2026 until further notice, while the Super Visa remains available.

Being eligible for the Super Visa does not mean being eligible for sponsorship.

How we can help

Pro Immigration can help you:

  • check the requirements: host situation, income, insurance;
  • prepare the invitation letter and the proof of the family relationship;

  • follow the file and respond to IRCC's requests.

We cannot guarantee that a Super Visa will be issued: the decision rests with IRCC.
